Through the Garden Wall. Double Exposed Holga Print. Beverly, MA. 2016

Kim Hamilton received a BFA with a concentration in Photography/ Video from Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA in 2018. While earning her degree she completed an internship at ANYEYE with Professor Ethan Berry editing and archiving historical film footage. She curated the Woman In Action movie night featuring 35mm films from WWII and Post Depression eras. Kim participated in Montserrat’s program in Mallorca, Spain where she studied photography and history. She created a portfolio documenting Spanish culture reflected in the landscape and architecture.

She works with digital photography as well as using 35mm and Holga film to make scans, prints, and if she’s lucky silver gelatin prints. In her senior thesis, she worked with traditional super 8 and 16mm film, using experimental techniques to create films that are about process over story, experience over information, and delight beyond entertainment. With multiple mediums, techniques, and source materials she makes her films as visceral as possible, not focusing on a narrative, but rather on purely visual combinations that create a new context.

Kim firmly believes that photographs are memories caught on film; a snapshot of personal history that can be interpreted in so many ways. It's the preservation of these memories that led her to digital restoration. By scanning photographs and then digitally restoring them she wants to rejuvenate and preserve memories that may have been lost otherwise.

Her work has been exhibited in multiple shows at Montserrat College of Art including, “MASH Media Animation Showcase” at the Cabot Cinema, “NASAD Montserrat Accreditation Show” at the  301 Gallery, “Bear Gallery Photography Show” at Montserrat College of Art, and the “Montserrat Juried Open House Exhibition” in the main gallery.
